As you may remember from about 1991 until my health problems about 6 years ago now I was a fanatical workout demon. Some years I'd workout as long as 4 hours per day, 7 days a week. But my point is: During that time I monitored myself well... and came to 'know'... that is: I could tell you almost precisely, after much practice and monitoring, what my heart rate was without using any monitoring device...and I mean almost PERFECTLY. Same with 'time'... I knew when I had run an hour based on my fatigue level, tempo... etc. I could tell within a minute, seriously.. without a watch.
