Wow-I didn't know that about the water. In fact I would have thought just the opposite since water carries sound far greater than air. You can hear sperm whales many miles away when you are underwater. I've been in the ocean when a friend has thrown a cherry bomb into the water with a UDT explosive wicker on it. When it explodes you can actually see the shock waves underwater coming at you and then you can feel it-quite an uneasy feeling when you are just treading in the water.
