If you can go for an hour a session on a stairstepper. . . the treadmill should be no problem at all. The only difference is compression on your knees. You might want to be careful about that. No heavy thumping.
Now back to the subject at hand. You're correct, most people buy them. . . and they collect dust. I see the same thing at the gym Especially after the new year when a long list of resolutions goes untouched. Newbies are there for maybe a month. . . and then they do a disappearing act.
I don't have to tell you this, but I'm going to anyway. It's all in the head. And anything you do is better than nothing at all. . . so go for it.
I wish I knew you were thinking about doing this. Because I would have also suggested you look at a rowing machine. I use one daily, although primarily for muscle warmup before I lift. But they are amazing and work 86 per cent of the muscles in your body. And there's no stress on your knees. (I just read what Todd said about that. . . he is correct.)
You did the right thing. But if you ever falter and feel a need for an intervention. . . call me.
