1. Don't eat late. If you go to bed at 11:00, don't eat dinner at 7:00. Try to eat around six.
2. Watch what you eat. Acidic coffee bad, red sauce bad, alcohol bad, chocolate bad, jalepenos-spice bad.
3. Don't eat high protein late at night. Example, steak, tuna, etc. Takes a lot of acid production to digest that stuff.
4. I bought a wedge pillow from Costco. If I am having symptoms I prop up like SST said. Laying flat is really bad as acid will come back into the esophagus or worse.
5. Get a RX for pantaprozole. It is super cheap and generic so essentially $5 if you have good insurance. Much stronger than Prilosec or over the counter meds. Limits acid production in the stomach. You can take this short term to let your condition settle down.
Key is diet and not eating to late. The food stuck feeling is your esophagus shrinking up because it is irritated. Nice safe way to calm acidic stomach is to add a base - put a teaspoon of baking soda in a 8 oz cup of water and drink it. It will neutralize your stomach acid.
