Prilosec and Omeprazole for about 30 years.. Those are both acid inhibitors - they keep your stomach from making as much acid, as opposed to Tums and stuff that just tries to neutralize it..
So, I'd suggest you might - after discussing this with a doctor -
* Take Prilosec or Omeprazole or Nexium.. all 3 are over the counter.. Omeprazole, I think, is just the generic name for Prilosec..
* Try to lift the head end of your bed 3-4 inches.. I used to put blocks under the headboard side wheels, but now we have a temperpedic, so I just raise the head end.. This physically keeps the acid from coming up while you sleep - simple gravity..
That's really about all I do for my acid reflux.. I had a scope done and they inserted a chip and made me wear a monitor for a week.. It measures when and how much acid tries to come up from your stomach.. They also make you stop taking acid reflux meds for a week before you do the test.. I would feel it coming up and my monitor, which was normally at "10" would immediately drop to "1" meaning some serious acid just came up.. It then tracked how often and how much.. Doc looks at my monitor, downloads the data and tells me, "you have the worst case of acid reflux I've ever seen"..
He wanted me to get this surgery they do where they tie a knot, or something, in your upper esophagus to keep the acid from coming up, but I researched ait and didn't do the surgery.. There is a somewhat low success rate and it can even become undone.. So, screw that.. Good luck, man...
