An interesting conversation here. My son and his son are going through some tough times as it relates to my grandson's ski racing. He's now -at 14-competing against kids that are in ski academies across the western U.S. and many will likely end up on the U.S. Ski team (some in the higher age group already are). So no longer is my grandson on the podium like he was in the Tahoe circuit. So he gets discouraged. His dad after two surgeries in a battle to get over his melanoma to his lips is undergoing infusion therapy. He works all week, then is still a ski instructor in Tahoe, and then accompanies his son to all the races-usually at Mammoth. His wife-my daughter in law-is pushing both of them to give up ski racing because of all the travel, etc. She stays back home for most of the events and gets tired of being left alone. So there is plenty of discussion around their household on this subject. We try and stay out of it because it truly is a family issue. I just know that if my grandson gave up ski racing it would remove something in his life that has been so worthwhile for a long time. It also would impact my son notwithstanding his medical issues. So there's trouble-right here in River City. Life is never an easy path-is it?
