Graduated Fresno in 2004 I think? DB... played at Clovis. He's the HC for the Mountaineers at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Co. He was a also a teammate with Dell Hawkins, (You remembered him when I mentioned him before)... and they are still friends. Dell is a very close friend of ours here in Kerman. Dell is putting in a good word for Mason.
Mason talked to Jas a couple of times today.... they want him but the problem is 'money'. I don't know how it works... but I guess they are at the very end of one scholarship year and the next won't open up until this summer. As I understand things, (which could very wrong), they are trying to work on a deal that combines the two... some now, more this summer.
Whatever, Mason is on fire... and has started working out. Mason, as you know, doesn't have the size to make an impression... and he's not lightening fast either... he's not slow by any means... but nothing that gets 'noticed'. Unfortunately his three best gifts are probably the least considered... 'smarts', he will know the system better than the coach in two days.... running routes... and his best attribute is not on ANY recruiter's radar... his hands, (catching). That last surprised the hell out of me... frankly. Only thing I can think of us is that they consider 'catching' a teachable talent so size, speed, and actually everything else comes first.
Ah but... you're right, Greg... today was a thrill. For Mason to get some recognition, to KNOW he can move on to the next level... he's on top of the world. - JamesJM
