I think this team is built for either the home runs or the strikeouts. I also believe the MLB has intentionally designed the game to be this way due to the drop in tv viewership and-with the exception of the Dodgers-attendance. What they didn't count on was the fact that when there are no home runs the game is even more boring to most than ever before. I think they assumed that w/o the home run there would still be contact with the balls. But any student of the game could have told them that -due to the arch of the swing-if you don't hit home runs you will strike out more often than if you were not swinging for the fence. It also makes the game much longer, much more pitches thrown, and hence more relievers needed in a game-again adding to a slow down. If I had it my way I could design baseball so that the game would be over in 15 minutes-but it would be the most exciting 15 minutes of any sport ever !
