Its genetics. I know heavy alcoholics who have no problem with their pancreas. Me, OTOH, have been hospitalized twice for pancreatitis and each time I'm told to cut back on alcohol. My last visit this summer the doc said cut it out altogether. The other primary cause of pancreatitis is sludge in your gall bladder. That and alcohol. Chronic pancreatitis can cause death.
