I read an article yesterday that listed 10 ways to improve the game... I'm not going to list them all... couple of them got my interest.
I'm going to begin by saying that I've been following the game long enough now that I'm somewhat of a 'traditionalist'... somewhat resistant to change. The game isn't perfect, no game is, and for me that simply adds 'charm', 'humanity', for the most part.
The list of 10 was not written by someone from the USA... btw... I think perhaps Scandinavian? I've forgotten.
So - - - - the two that I thought had some merit... beginning with one I lean "AGAINST" but understand it... and it's simple - widen the goal. Definitely more scoring if they do..... but like I said - I somewhat traditionalist and this just doesn't really 'feel' right to me. Possibly 'too' radical of a change?
This next I like... penalty shots.... copy Hockey. Make the striker begin at midfield. Now to be honest I do not know if this would 'change' the current % of success on a penalty shot but it WOULD, seems to me, make it a lot more exciting and I think, not sure, would make it more difficult. The reason giving by the author was that a penalty shot is too severe, (not always, but in a low scoring game like soccer the author thinks it TOO penalizing) At the least I think this 'change' worth debate.
BTW, as I write this it's 2-1 France at halftime... Croatia is holding their own. Still think it's France but I also think Croatia has proven they have a right to be in this game. - JamesJM
