But, as I said, those are questionable numbers.
"Pit bull" is used very loosely by people to ID a dog that "looks" like an American Pit Bull Terrier, even in those statistics. Those people aren't doing any kind of close analysis to identify the breed; they just eyeball them.
There are many breeds that LOOK just like the American Pit bull Terrier, but are a completely separate breed.
My friend owns a pit (an actual pit bull), and since he lives close to me, and travels for work quite a bit, I go over to his house and babysit his dog. That dog has NEVER shown any aggression towards me, NOR has it shown any aggression to anyone I've ever been around with that animal. Not even other dogs.
Same story with the pit that visited my house the other night (and I'm not even sure that was a true blooded pit).
To be honest, the dog I was most frightened of in my life was a lab that lived down the street when I was kid. That dog was MEAN!!! It got into several fights with my golden retriever.
Without enough context, all those dog bite stats mean squat to me; there's just too much left unanswered.
But, hey, to each their own. Shrug
