Those guys are only there part of the year. It sounds like you might be a tad early-hopefully not. You will have an idea once you get there and there are no other boats around-although to be honest when I was there I don't recall any other boats other than a couple of Mexican pangas trying to sell us lobster. As far as "baiting the cage" we didn't put any bait inside the cage but we did throw out a lot of fish guts into the water-as you could see in our video. And even that was illegal at the time. There really is a good reason for making it illegal. As the sharks get use to food and humans they become less and less anxious of humans and that adds danger to those who might venture into the water-and I know several divers who go spearfishing there albeit at a time when the sharks are not normally there. The reason is the island is a place where huge yellowtail (40-50-60 lbs) are often taken.

Your desire to be rammed by a Great White while inside the cage is crazy !! Believe me, if they are there it will be spectacular enough without any unnecessary chances. Make sure there are at least two in the cage facing each other. Your back can be up against the cage and you are looking across and there could be a huge shark right behind you and if you didn't have someone looking over your shoulder you could easily miss the shot. They make no noise to let you know they are there. Every thing is very peaceful and quiet and then suddenly one is within inches of the cage. It's marvelous how you don't see them until they are right there.

As I've said before I do have some reservations after making that shark trip-especially the issue of bait. When I look back on the whole thing I become more and more a naturalist and it just seems like feeding the sharks are like training them which to me is not natural. The Mexicans in the pangas I mentioned above actually bang their boats to "signal" the sharks to come in. They get tipped with food and beer and playboy magazines. The whole thing reminded me of the movie "The Electric Horseman" But I did participate in it and yes I was thrilled. Would I do it again-I doubt it.
