wow, Montery Pop turns 50.... (and a tangent)

I was there. I even performed. laughing smiley Umm, bit of a qualifier. Monterey Pop Festival.. then anyway, began on Thursday and featured college jazz bands. The 'stars' came out only on Friday night and then Sat. and Sunday.

Funny thing.. of all the performers, which included Hendrix, the Who, my favorite memory is Otis Redding... who, to me anyway, was the hi-light of the weekend. They were all fantastic, however.

You have probably seen Jimi, and the Who, destroying musical instruments on stage during that '67 festival. And yeah, I suppose I can see some 'art' in that... but mostly I cringed. Why? You might ask?

I love musical instruments, all of them... they are works of art by themselves. They need not sound a single note and I'm in awe of them... just looking at them. Want proof?

Here's a video... just look at these classic guitars, banjos, steel guitars, accordions, flutes, et al.
