Either way, Ramsey's availability and what it took to get him was probably mostly the reason Peters was traded.
According to the Rams, they were trading Peters whether they got Ramsey or not. They openly said that. When they traded Peters they did not know they could accomplish the Ramsey trade.
The reason they gave was the depth--they knew they were deep at corner. Which means btw they believed in Hill and Williams, which of course is not surprising since they know those players. And so that's credible because the Rams WERE deep at corner.
How deep? They traded 2 starters away. Then the next 2 starters missed games and they were STILL solid at corner. No one does that. You don't lose 4 corners, including 2 to short term injuries, and still play solid at corner.
I don't personally care about the Peters/Ramsey issue because the upshot is (1) they are VERY deep at corner and that is always a plus, and (2) any halfway competent defensive coordinator just gears his secondary play around the strengths he has on hand and if he can't do that he isn't really a competent defensive coordinator.
