I agree. Like you said Noteboom- while not having the pure brute strength of Saffold by any means- was improving. And they did stabilize the interior OL later in the season. I still think their biggest issue, as others (and you I think?) pointed out was the regression at OT by Havenstein and Whitworth. Assuming they still had one of the best OT tandems in the NFL was part of why Saffold was allowed to leave. That unforeseen error made the interior OL flux all the more glaring.
I still don't think we can discount the position that the OT's regressed precisely because we had so much inexperience inside. It seems more than coincidental to me that Whit began playing much better as soon as David Edwards and then Corbett stepped in over Noteboom and Demby who were both awful.
Then Saffold was the real reason Whitworth played better in 2018?
Hav had nothing to do with the OGs, he just completely regressed all on his own. Some were predicting it in camp reports.
