What does McVay need play action for his scheme to work?
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Sure it helps if you have a good running game and play action buys you an extra second and holds the LB's for a second.... BUT... so what? Why should an offense be built around this anecdotal move? It is helpful when it's working, but should not be a requirement of your offensive success.
Nobody's running game scares anyone anymore. The teams that said "ignore the jet sweeps and the play action...and just play defense and make Goff beat us", Like the Bears did. And then everyone else followed. It's not just the 6-1-4, it's the fact that all that behind the line of scrimmage stuff is just smoke and mirrors. And even more so now without Gurley.
