I suspect he is getting, or has already had, PRP injections. Hopefully the Rams can preserve his career. Four years of close to 300 carries has simply added up.

If it's any kind or degree of arthritic, from what I understand, that would make sense. I also understand that that is very similar in some ways to stem cell treatment. Here's what McVay said about that, back in February:

Quote

from [www.cbssports.com]

Rams coach Sean McVay was asked about the possibility of a stem cell procedure during a one-on-one interview with CBSSports.com at the NFL combine on Thursday and although he didn’t confirm it, he did say that the team is looking at “new methods” to help Gurley with his ailing knee.

“As far as the stem cells, that’s not something that’s been communicated to me, but there is a program,” McVay said. “We’ve got these doctors and there’s always new methods of staying as up-to-date as you can, and number one, the player has to feel good about it. Todd does such a good job of doing his own research and knowing what are the things [he] can do.”

McVay also added that the team is open to using new advancements in medicine as long as Gurley is comfortable with it.

“I think every year provides a new opportunity based on the research and some of the medical advances to attack it in the right way,” McVay said. “As long as Todd is feeling good about that, that’s what we’ll do.”

That's not that revealing but I do notice what McVay DOESN'T say. He doesn't say "why would he do that? there's nothing wrong with his knee."

He didn't say TG would or would not do stem cell treatment, what he did say is that the team is open to things medically as long as Todd is.

Which, again, is not the same as saying "but...there's nothing wrong, why are we talking about this."

He says, there are medical advances, if Todd is good with that stuff that's what we;ll do.

See, if someone said to me, I hear you are using a new medical procedure to deal with gout, both of the following answers would, in different ways, be very revealing:

1. "Well I am open to medical advances that make sense."

2. "I don't have gout, what are you talking about."

And again for emphasis---Faulk played a long time with similar knee issues. Having this does not mean TG will be hobbled in game one. Mmaybe nothing happens in 2019. OR something could happen, and then it can calm down and he can play again. (Which is what happened in 2018--twice.) Martz sat Faulk for 3 weeks before the 2001 season, because Marshall's surgical knee was acting up and needed rest. And he had a good season in 2001. So those saying "we will know in game 1" the simple fact is, actually no. It's not like that. It's not a permanent disabling of the knee, it's something that can come and go. He can still play when the inflammation calms down.

....

Roger that, zn. I was thinking that it could be something as simple as tendinitis but which, at its worst, can be debilitating. A guy that I have competed against in T&F told me that he gets some kind of injection every two years to get rid of inflammation throughout his body. He said that he feels "brand new" for months after that.

He specifically said it wasn't a steroid, but that it was hormonal.
