We just don't know how bad. The Rams know a lot more than they are telling us and the hope is its just the beginning stages. Afterall, they gave him the big contract extension just a few months before learning of the problem.
Odds are they can manage it and get few more years out of him. But that means managing his workload and Gurley's workhorse days are over.
I think this is a reasonable take. The only question is, will they draft a RB early or late? Where they take one will tell me a lot about how bad it is.
I think that the story is that you have to manage his touches. They can do that with the players they have, though maybe a draft pick tells us what they think about Kelly.
IF he has an arthritic knee it comes and goes. It flared up in game 1, and it flared up in December.
Both times he was fine after it calmed down. So whatever it is, IF it is something, this seems to be an early stage and he doesn't seem to be so bad off if they manage him.
....
It also could mean that they gave him glucocorticoid injections into the knee to reduce the inflammation and pain, allowing him to play. That usually isn’t done any more often than every three months so if it flared before he could get another injection he might not have been able to play as much.
All true and possible.
If in fact (as we probably suspect) he does have an actual physical condition.
I say it happening twice in the season hints at that, but that's not proof.
