Rampage2K-
Sadly, soon some of the QB contracts will be X% of the salary cap type deals so they don't keep getting leapfrogged...as the salary cap goes up so does their pay type of deals.
Not trying to diss Blake, just saying finding a franchise type QB isn't as easy as you seem to think it is....he was a first round QB who didn't even make it past his rookie contract with the team that drafted him.
I agree with you though that the QB money is getting out of control.... one player getting 17% leaving 52 players fighting over the remaining 83% with players like Donald and a few others who eat up 60% of that pie leaves you with a team of young players on rookie contracts with very little depth.
One good study has shown that winning teams spend about 60% of their cap on 10 players. I think when Goff signs, and with Donald's contract, for the Rams it will be more like 8-9 players.
But that 60% of the cap on the top 8-10 contracts is a norm. Every superbowl winner worked with that. Every team in the championship games worked with that.
Oh and most franchise qbs do not get 17%. I looked it up and it's usually around 12-15%. Doesn't sound like much of a difference? It is though. The difference between 12-15% and 17% in 2019 is between 4-9.5 M.
And the rest of the players are not just on rookie contracts. It's all sorts of different types of guys who do not get top contracts. Guys like that on the Rams, for example, who do not have top veteran contracts, include Weddle, Matthews, McQuide, Hekker, Zuerlein, Bortles, Countess, Blythe, Robey-Coleman, Littleton, and Woods.
Was referring to the rumors that QB's will soon be looking to get to the $35M per range and have contracts that instead of pay them X amount of money pay them X% of the salary cap every year in order to keep them from being leapfrogged every year by lesser players.
Of course you're going to have to pay older vets and special teamers along with a bunch of players on rookie contracts. Btw, Woods is already hinting how under paid he is....which he is.
Soon the Rams will have to pay Goff and there will be more of those type of players then less on this team...that's why drafting well IS vital in this day and age.
Older star players like Suh are finding out that the big money isn't there and there isn't quite the market there once was for them.....Weddle and Mathews seem to be content just getting paid while being somewhere they want to be.
