It is completely a matter of expectations to me. I was disappointed and really wanted some revenge on the Pats but...I have it in perspective, I think.
The Rams were 4-12 in 2016, had fired Fisher and hired a rookie HC. I didn't know what to expect but hoped that it could only get better and if they could end up 8-8 then it would be major improvement. In fact, a new coach should have 3 years to turn a program around, bring in their people, implement their own playbook and sell their motivation. Going 11-5 and making the playoffs was totally above and beyond but I stayed with the 3 year projection and considered them a year ahead of schedule.
Last year, I wanted them to make it to the NFC Championship but again they went beyond that. So the SB was playing with "house money" in my mind since 2019 is Year 3 for them. This year I expect them to make the SB (again, now) and hopefully win. But as the old adage goes, it's harder to get there than it is to win it. So I am content, relaxed, looking forward to the next step in this now wonderful, competitive and strong program. This team is fun again!
