First, ZB can be an issue for aggressive fronts especially if they are powerful.
The Jet sweep, if you think your WR can outrun a penetrating DT works.
Setting up in shotgun, giving our QB a tab bit more time
Designed rollouts
RB screens (which really goes against playaction)
and last but not least and Jemach's favorite, a TE that is enough of a mismatch in the middle of the field.
Also ZB favors a RB like Gurley, and man blocking favors a CJ Anderson
So, the Patriots, not scared of an injured Gurley, or either of the Rams TEs just kept pushing that pocket. And for some reason, the Rams got confused on their gap assignments (which should never have happened) and Anderson blew a bunch of blitz pickups.
Sully is a great dude, but he is older with a back surgery under his belt and was, and has been the weak link. The Rams OTs were solid last night, especially i nthe pass game as I pointed out. Their pass block win rate was 94 and 91 percent. League average for OTs is low 80s I think. Replace Sully and get a healthy Gurley and I think life gets better. Oh , and add Tyler Eifert in the off season and hope that bad luck having SoB can stay healthy for 1 season.
And lastly, I have said this over and over. Goff has never read a defense a day in his life before the NFL. He had no idea what Belichick was showing him. Goff will grow from this. He apparently is a film junky. And he is growing. Last year he doesn't win without McVay in his ear against NO. The year before that, he couldn't read more then 1/2 the field. It will come, he'll get more confidence in what he sees, and his decisions will be quicker and with more confidence.
heck, even the goat was confused by what Wade's defense was showing him last night. its what great defensive minds do.
