See the thing is, Goff is more Rothlesberger than Bradford or Alex Smith.
Goff moves around, hangs in there, and does not like to throw check downs. He wants to push the ball downfield; he looks for explosive plays. And that means taking chances and holding on to the ball longer than the manual says you should, etc.
Bradford and Smith on the other hand are true check-down Charleys. They want to get the ball out quick, throw only high percentage throws, and indeed this looks great in the stats, keeps the sacks low, but also doesn't usually get the team very far.....especially come playoff time.
Every QB has a style, and every style has advantages and draw backs. And that style is absolutely innate....instinctive....reflects the personality. It cannot be taught and later changed to something else. Rothlesberger is what he is. Goff is what he is. Cam Newton is what he is, etc. Goff will always have a moderate amount of sacks; not the lowest, but never the highest. Like Rothlesberger. And Goff will always have pretty high YPC, YPA, etc.
I like it. No....I LOVE it. This is offensive football that is fun to watch! And with the rules as they now are, it is winning football.
