There are great leaders, and not so great leaders.
It’s not simply he’s a leader or not. There are degrees of leadership.
How far will your team go for you, how much do they believe in you?
A great leader shows up big time in big games in crunch time. Players rally around him and play at a higher level in those situations.
I don’t consider Ogletree or Quinn great leaders. If you want to call them leaders, fine. IMO, we can do a lot better.
I think max pretty much nailed it here.
Another thing. Notice how nature abhors a vacuum? Leadership is like that. One, or more, leader(s) will emerge.
None of us knows for sure who it will be because we’re not in the locker room, in practices, or on the field on Sundays. But we can be sure that any leadership void will be amply filled.
My best guesses?
Goff on O, hands down.
On D I like Talib and Joyner. If Kiser becomes a starter, I think he just might become one.
Meanwhile, McVay will always be the Alpha Male on this team. There will be no sense of lack of focus or direction as long as he’s around.
We’re on the same wavelength, 43.
Goff is emerging as the leader of this team. Remember how his teammates from Cal went nuts when they watched him get drafted? They love the guy.
I also liked the way he handled Watkins last year. Goff showed mental toughness.
Not sure about Joyner. He may not be a long termer. Most likely they give Donald that fat contract and he takes control of the D.
