ok, but how do you know a team is trying to replace a qb until they do. this first part is completely speculative. we could argue for days which qbs teams want to replace. and do you define sustainable? a guy who has played with the same team for at least 3 years?

My definition of a franchise QB is twofold. A Guy that a team isn’t trying to replace AND a QB that is sustainable.
I don’t think you can classify every one of those guys as sustainable QBs. In order to be sustainable you must be proven to be able to produce at a competent level repeatedly.
At the very least, None of those rookies fit that bill.
Sustainable is a guy who has produced at a competent level for multiple seasons or at least has demonstrated in a shorter period that there is a high probability that he will. In the first part, an Alex Smith. In the second part, a Jared Goff.
I don’t think it’s too difficult to determine if a team is trying to replace a QB. Just examine the teams drafting near the top of the draft. Browns, Jets, Broncos, Buffalo, Miami, Cards. It kind of jumps out at you. None of those teams were happy with their QB situation.
