... who supposedly are critical of Goff. I don't put much stock in that. There are opinions out there that cover the entire spectrum of possibilities.
Here's what this one fan sees...
Goff is still ascending. To use a common cliché, the game is slowing down for him. He's finding the time/confidence to go through progressions more and more. Even in his worst game of the year against Seattle, Earl Thomas commented on how Goff is much improved and looked him off on a couple of plays (including the one that almost won the game).
I think his career path will be much more successful than Andy Dalton's. I think its reasonable to hope for a ceiling comparable to Matt Ryan. If you want to dream, maybe he can one day remind people of Drew Brees.
I think we'll see a more comfortable and aggressive Goff this week against the Cardinals. Apart from Patrick Peterson, who is not 100% (fighting a quad injury), their CBs are fairly average. After playing teams that rank #1 (Jaguars) and #3 (Seahawks) in the league in passer rating allowed, Cardinals (#23, 92.3 rating allowed) should be a better matchup.
That's what I think, anyway.
