1) Too much of a project - Can't take an asset like 2nd pick in the draft and wait for years for a return. Need somebody that is polished and ready to play at a high level day 1
The Pick never made sense and even if Robinson turned out to be a good player, it still is the wrong move at the #2 slot (UNLESS HE WAS the 2nd coming of Orlando Pace) I wouldn't be too worked up if it was a mid to late round pick and most of the top playmakers were off the board anyway, but number 2 was in excusable and other than Fisher's cave man offense, was the biggest reason for the Rams failures these past couple of years. That asset should have been used to upgrade the team.
The Rams at the time were in desperate need of a LT so the position choice wasn't really a shocker. I remember several people wanted them to trade back or stay put and select Khalil Mack.
I do remember thinking that if the Rams were going to select an Offensive Tackle with the #2 pick, It would likely be Jake Mathews over the NFL combine warrior Greg Robinson.
I wasn't upset over the pick because Grob was getting some big hype about his upside/ceiling but I was confused because Fisher had ties to Jake's father Bruce Mathews and Snead had some ties to the university of Auburn.
Did Snead and his scout team convince Fisher that Robinson was the right choice? Maybe we will find out more about how Fisher and Snead worked together when Fisher's been retired a few more years and
decides to write a book about his exit from LA.
