Man, I DO have to say that the TA end-aroundfake/give...and TG off tackle was a great play that I thought they'd use a LOT this year...even with a PA attached. It was the one play that we used in 2015 that was hard to defend and forced defenders to hold the edges. I was screaming for it 5-10x per game all year. TA is a great RB(played it at Dunbar HS) and is still a really great RB esepcailly off tackle but has done good work running up the gut - deyfing all logic for a 178lb man to have any success. lol
Anyway, back to the article. The writer's points are fair to make...just wish he'd make better examples. imo
===========================
1) The one where TG is thru the hole and breaks to his left and crumples...looks odd and he is surrounded by 3 defenders.
Reminded me of what Bruce and Holt would do when goin down to save a hit when there's nuthin left to gain. But the crumple looks odd almost like he's gonna hurt himself or just thinks there's nuthin left to gain here. Regardless, he does seem off balance.
2) The patience on the one cut back from the right sweep DOES seem like a lack of patience...
I agree.
but I wonder if he's been coached to hit the hole HARD at full speed to bust a big one. It seems like he is!
Cuz he runs right into the backs of the OL
(where the hole is "supposed to be" at very full speed....as opposed to plodding to the hole.
3) The 3rd where the writer wants TG to
just break to the left and that gaping hole ... is a bit revisionist. imo
The article says TG
"should have seen the crashing LB"...
ya mean the guy who Kendricks couldn't block? However, again, if you watch closely TG is
already in the hole - between the crashing tackler & his own blocker
(OC on his left blocking the escape)....
and so, TG cannot go anywhere but thru!!
All this happens so fast!!!!!..........and we do not know the play, nor the writer, nor HOW the play is
coached to run!
Overall, I think TG got really frustrated with everything. He's young and still has growing up to do...like SJ did when he started out.
Remember,
-I wish the writer DID- in SJ's first few years that he was a self-centered player and the grew into a leader with the heart of a lion!
btw -
Wonder how TGs stat of getting hit/1st contact by a defender 1.5yds
after hand-off compares with to
other NFL RBs? Or even SJs? I dunno but would be interesting to know.
