I think there is some slim chance they get a coach who can do the job.
But it's kind of like picking a QB high. Lots of stuff depends on the talent around him.
When Spags took over he had nothing to work with. Devaney was no help. They lost the OC and brought in McDaniels who I think wanted to kill #8. They simply had no talent. It was a no win scenario... well it was a two win scenario. Bad either way.
So they can get a potentially good coach but the circumstances will have some affect on the success he has.
Whoever they get I think he needs to be very confident. Not like Spags or Linehan who appeared happy just to have the job. A Parcells type perhaps.
I'm not keen on hiring a coach who has just had 3 consecutive losing seasons to replace one who had 5... But Payton checks a lot of boxes. Perhaps Team Shanahan does too.
The thing about Mike Shanahan is I bet he will bust his ass to make sure his son succeeds. I know I would.
