As i watch some more bowl games I thought I would throw out some musings on each pick. Obviously this a bigger waste of time then normal because a HC is obviously gonna determine which way the Rams go.
So with no HC, I'm drafting the way I would, with no real rankings in place.
2nd - Taco Charlton - I love his game, he can move around, stand up, fingers in the dirt, left right, inside outside...doesn't matter. Demarcus Walker also makes sense and frankly flip a coin.
I know, I know, but the offense is so bad. I would normally have Corey Davis here and if he slides to day 2, I would trade up to get him, his size, speed route running and ball aggressiveness is just what the doctor ordered.
Another name if he comes out would be Ryan Ramczyk. I doubt he gets the 2nd round as OTs are in high demand and the quality is lacking this year.
Or Dan Feeney OG from Indiana who destroyed that utah defensive front in their bowl game. He would be the Rams best OL from day 1.
3rd - Cooper Kupp (pronounced Cup) - i like the fact that he is a polished route runner with solid hands and quickness. most productive FCS WR I have ever seen, and if the level of competition scares you off, look at what he did to Oregon in 2015: 15 for 246 3 TDs and a long of 73, or Washington State in 2016: 12 for 206 3 TDs and a long of 75
I would also look long and hard at a FS here, but you can find value later. Maybe a center, but unless Elfein slides I wait.
4th - Chad Kelly - QB - Blew out his ACL but should be good to go. At 6-2" a tad on the short side, but has a big arm and is a gunslinger. i'm not advocating Sean Peyton for Rams HC, but I could see a pick like this. But then again, I'm of the belief you draft a QB somewhere every year.
5th - John Johnson - FS - a safety with some actual ball skills from Boston College. At this point you can make a case for OL, TE, CBs, LB or FS.
5th Comp pick - Jon Toth - OC, he held his own against Bama earlier this season. I admit I am terrible at evaluating centers so feel free to rip into this one. But Kentucky did average 5.5 ypc this season...
6th - Zack Johnson OG NDSU - My annual NDSU pick, first team all FCS pick this year after a 3rd team selection in 2015. Big kid but moves well and we know the Bison can run the ball.
7th - Psalm Wooching - OLB Washington - ST and LBer depth...what? its the 7th round.
Hit on two picks - rams went earlier on Johnson that Deadpool did but very impressive.
