As for learning to take snaps from under center and drop back, it's not really just about that. It's about the footwork, delivery and timing involved in tying drop-backs to play calls and progressions, basically routes and route combinations. You hear NFL QB's say it time and time again. Playing QB in the NFL is about playing with your feet. That includes pro style offenses in shotgun mode. The Air Raid and other similar college offenses are completely different in concept. They are strictly pre-snap read, catch and throw.
It's one of the myths you see repeated constantly when it comes to how NFL offense operate from the shotgun more often than not these days anyway. It doesn't matter because it's not the same just because the formation is shotgun.. What matters is that the QB has to understand how the timing of that call, the progressions and route combinations work together with the feet in 3 step, 5 step, 7 step drop AND shotgun formations.
