win the TO battle win the game, lose the TO battle - lose the game - I think every game this year?
They were never supposed to be in the position where the passing game had to save them at the end of games. They were supposed to be a running team that played consistent defense.
The offense has been in situations now where they have to score at the end to win 5 times. Two they won, three they lost.
But they were never supposed to be IN those situations.
So I think they lost because the defense has not been consistent and neither has the running game.
Meanwhile, completely unexpectedly, the passing game is what carries them (or has been so far). I would like to show the stats on that from the last 5 games but that's a lot of homework, so I will just use a site that does the last 3 games.
In the last 3 games the Rams are
18th in yards per game. It would be higher if they could run the ball.
In fact they are 8th in passing yards per game.
7th in completion percentage.
12th in yards per attempt.
8th in 3rd down conversions.
So the fact that they are even close at all in the end, in a position to win or lose, is sometimes just the passing offense and sometimes both the passing offense and the defense.
They throw bad game losing picks in pressure situations. But then they were supposed to have enough of a running game and enough of a defense to not be in those situations.
So yes turnovers cost them games, but it's turnovers under very specific conditions that are doing that. Run the ball and play consistent defense and you don't have those conditions in the first place.
