I just don't see that the mindset could be anything other than straight forward. It appears that Gurley had his mind made up. But he could have thought that Saffold and Robinson would fall down either.... The OL is a mess at times. And that was pathetic. Barnes was little better but at least he kind of got in the way. Its a foot... I don't think you go sideways there.
What is Gurley's responsibility on this play? To take the handoff and then look to see the best place to run the ball? Or to plow full speed ahead and believe that your big guys up front are going to win the battle?
It's pretty obvious what the play was designed to do... The fullback shifting left presnap and the guard pulling left both making a pretty good looking hole to the left. Yet, Gurley goes right?
I'm pretty sure Gurley is to blame on this one...unless the pulling guard and fullback were a decoy, but that would be a pretty dumb play to say the least.
I've watched this play several times and it's an easy TD had he just followed the blockers to the left.
You have me at a disadvantage as I have not seen the play once - only these pictures.
So I will take your word for it.
