but it has to take the other team by surprise somewhat and should be in a situation where it is not expected. But, like Fisher said, "its who we are" or whatever, everyone expects it. I mean it worked before because everybody and their mother didn't know it was coming. I understand that Fisher has a history of it but the fact remains that prior to, the other teams weren't expecting it. They may have prepped for it but in this article Ryan pretty much said they were hoping they would run a fake because they prepped so much for it.
My issue is when they did it. Now it could be one of those situations where they think its so dumb they'll never expect it. And that's where I was. I said out loud "I hope they don't try a fake here and then said no that would be idiotic". I even fast forwarded because I KNEW they wouldn't do it.
1. There was no element of surprise.
2. There was plenty of time left on the clock and 3 time outs
3. The defense is kind of you're bread and butter and you have an idea that Ryan would try to run time off the clock and not risk a turnover.
4. The offense had been moving the ball prior to that series.
The area of the field doesn't really concern me but it of course if it doesn't work then the game is over.
There was no hole for Marquez. I've watched it now 20+ times from two angles. IF there is a hole then its because everyone was flowing to Marquez (creating the hole) but there was no place to go unless a couple defenders cramped up at opportune times... No one is surprised by the fake. Now they could have used the Bills "preparedness" against them, because they were SO all over that play that the outside guy gave up covering 32 and it would have been an easy throw and enough for a first down. Not sure why that option wasn't available to Marquez. It could have been but it sure as heck doesn't look like it. It was a well executed play by the Rams players unless the option to throw was in there...
But even if it worked it wouldn't have been a fan of the call. And of course, if it were successful, it doesn't guarantee the Rams would win the game. It would guarantee that they would lose it.
So I think a better place for a fake might have been on the 3 or 4 yard line and try to go for the tie. But the Bills, evidently have heard the Rams cry wolf enough, that they might have been all over that too. BUT it doesn't guarantee a loss... In fact it pins them deep in their own territory.
