Back w/ Johnson. 4-year, $24M deal w/ Browns... via Twitterby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
540+ special teams snaps the past 3 years. I do wonder how much of his new deal is guaranteed, though. I think finding another good blocking TE could still be on their radar.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Separate from RFA so likely means lower.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Exactly. JJ was great for the Rams and I hate to see him go. But the cupboard is hardly bare at safety with those four.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I get that we want to keep all our really good players. But this is not MLB. There are limits and choices to be made. With Johnson, the decision was made when they traded for Ramsey. I'm not saying compensatory picks are 'equal' for player losses. But they are clearly assets. And when the team is drafting players like Fuller, Burgess, Gaines, Edwards, Scott, SJD, etc. with some of those laterby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
There are guys who are liabilities. The ones who are bottom 3 among your starting 22. And then there are guys who are decent starters but could definitely be upgraded from. Blythe is the latter.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
This will change daily as FAs continue to sign. But as of right now they are projected to get a 3rd for Holmes, a 4th for Johnson and three 6ths for the other guys. At least one of those 6ths will probably end up getting bumped out but also we will have to see about Reynolds and Hill.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Could be. Too bad. I would have paid that to keep him.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I am just referring to blatant open spots to fill. People may not like what they have at ILB but they do have 5 guys there as of now.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
As of today: RB3 WR4 TE3 C (2) DL (2) OLB DB (2)by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
If the Rams trotted out a 2nd team OL right now it would be Noteboom, Evans, Shelton, Anchrum and Brewer. Assuming they add an OL in the Draft the odds of Allen and/or Demby making the roster are slim and none. Only reason to keep them around is for training camp practices. My assumption at WR is they draft a WR4 and Jackson is the WR5.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Yeah. Well, they may be brought into camp as 3rd teamers but I would think the odds of either being on the 53 in September are really slim. So maybe rip off that band-aid now?by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
For example, releasing Allen, Demby and Webster would save $2.62M. Not huge but not sure why they'd wait around.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Cal kid and played for Shanahan in both CLEV and ATL. No brainer for a guy going into likely his final season.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
He was a good Ram for 6 seasons but it was time for both parties to move on. He was the RB3 by season's end and that sure wasn't going to change in 2021. He also was not playing special teams the way he had 2016-2019. I wish him well. Hope he squeezes out a couple more NFL seasons before hanging them up.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
I think you're probably right. Retaining Blythe one more year while finding a true heir apparent (i.e. not Allen...) may be the best way to go.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
They are doubling down on Woods and Kupp by restructuring them (essentially locking them in through 2023) and spent the 57th pick last spring on Jefferson. So they have the advantage of- in theory- having their starting QB, RB, top 3 WRs and TE all together for the next three years. They need a complementary piece with speed to add to that mix.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
32nd all-time in games played, just behind Ken Iman, Todd Lyght and Leroy Irvin. And 28 QB sacks- 12th most (not including Deacon, Youngblood, etc.), just behind James Hall.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Underappreciated to some extent. This decade's Reggie Doss. I remember his very first preseason game in 2012 vs. IND and Colts' center Jeff Saturday talking after the game about how Brockers was going to be a good player. Snead's very first pick as Rams' GM and one of their best.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
It has been assumed he would leave. But the CB market seems fairly weak. Could the Rams keep him under a one year deal knowing the cap goes up and he could cash in much bigger in 2022? Just a thought...by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
If they sign a FA receiver it's going to be in the $2-3M range. But the more I think about it the more I think finding a guy in the middle rounds of the draft that can play situationally and grow and develop behind the 3 guys they have locked up for the next three years is the way to go.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Per Schefter. Not money the Rams have sitting around for a WR4....by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Exactly right. And the 'long haul' effect is simply that they need Donald, Ramsey, Woods and Kupp to all remain very productive through 2023. Individually, very viable. Collectively, longer odds for sure. Donald will be 32 in 2023, for example. As of now the Rams owe him zero guaranteed money that year. That now changes. Free agency is, in my opinion, largely about paying for prior (mostly drby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
Hate seeing them have to do all these restructures but it is what it is. But the net of them being this far over, then restructuring deals, adding on Floyd and Williams, and accounting for the draft class is just not going to leave a whole lot else. I'm sure a couple smaller signings later but I really doubt the Rams make any other FA moves until next week at the earliest.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
As great as he has been- the Rams best punter ever by a long shot- he had a down year in 2020 and has a cap number of $4.9M this year. Highest in the league by a good margin. He needs to bounce back and be a top-3 punter again this year or they might have to make a choice next offseason ($4.7M cap number in 2022 and 2023).by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
39 starts in college and in 12 NFL seasons he's started 16 games 10 times. His one injury was a broken leg in 2014. Missed a game with a concussion last year when they shelved him for the final game.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
...in that today's NFL is a passing league and if you want to be a good defense you'd better (a) be able to rush the passer and (b) cover well on the outside. The rest- to some extent- is just details. Now, you can't be a bottom-8 run defense but if you're a mediocre run defense but good in those other areas you're going to be good. The reverse, however, just isn't true anymore.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
If they could get Mack inexpensively for one year and draft Meinerz I'd sign up for that for sure.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
It's a very valid argument that Donald helps create opportunities for guys on the Edge. Quinn, Connor Barwin, Matthews, Longacre, Fowler, and Floyd. Well, their bet is with Donald there that will continue for Floyd. He was not only top-10 in the league in sacks he was top-20 in QB hits. And as others have said he is good (not great) vs. the run and in coverage too. Hard to find a guy on the eby LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
