Here's an interesting link in which you can see how 'land', back to Pangea, has drifted over millions of years. You can watch your current location's migration.

Where I live in Ca. was under the ocean for most of the time... same with much of the east coast... but parts of the Mid-West have been high and dry since the very beginning. Part of it was covered with ice during the last great ice age but for the most part it's been dry land.

It's interesting to see the continents during the age of the dinosaurs as they bear little resemblance to today.

I'm no geologist... but I think this makes the mid-west one of the safest possible places to live if you intend to live another few million years and have no desire to move. - JamesJM
