Los Angeles Rams Transcripts - Defensive Back
Kamren Curl - Monday, March 18, 2024

Defensive Back Kamren Curl

(On his initial thoughts about joining the Rams and why they stood out
compared to the other teams)

“I would just say everything really. We played them this past season and I liked
everything about the team. I’ve been watching Coach McVay for a long time
and everything he brings to the game and I'm just out here and I'm just really
excited to get started.”

(On if he has an idea of the role the Rams want him to play on defense)

“To play the safety position. Coach McVay was telling me he wants to tap into
all my other skill sets as well, everything that I did in Washington plus some. I'm
just ready to see what he’s got set up for me.”

(On what specifically was appealing to him with this defense and how he
thinks he fits into it)

“I like the way the guys just fly around. Fly around, play hard. Just another
piece that they want to bring in to bring another Super Bowl back to the town.”

(On what this deal means to him)

“Oh, it means a lot just to get all this done and get back to playing football.
That's really mainly what I want to do. I play football really well. That's what I
like to do and that's why I'm here.”

(On what he was looking for when he initially approached free agency)

“Just somewhere that expressed that they needed me and appreciated what I
brought to the game and how I play the game and just really the best fit for me.
That's what it came down to.”

(On what stood out to him from his conversation with Coach McVay)

“Just his energy and him reaching out to tell me basically he wanted me and
that meant a lot. Just off the bat that meant a lot. Like I said, just knowing about
him since being in the league, this is a coach that I would love to play for.”

(On his initial conversations and impressions of Defensive Coordinator
Chris Shula)

“We had some great conversations, good energy, just ready to work with each
other and get the job done, get some wins.”

(On Shula’s message to him regarding the identity of the defense)

“Basically, he told me he brought me in because he likes the way I play. He
likes the violence, the physicality I bring to the game and I feel like that's the
only way to play football. So bringing that to this defense can only make it
better.”

(On if anything stood out to him about the young secondary of the Rams)

“Yeah, the first thing is that they're real young. So they got a lot of upside and
they fly around. Fly around to the ball, making plays on the ball, and that's what
you love to see.”

(On if he admired any defensive backs that he looked up to growing up)

“I grew up watching guys. Everybody watched (Former NFL Player) Ed Reed,
(Former NFL Player) Sean Taylor. Growing up, high school, college, I watched
(Chargers Safety) Derwin James, (NFL Player) Eddie Jackson, guys that can
fly around and be violent like I do. I feel like that's the right way to play the
position.”

(On what Sean Taylor reminded him of as a defensive back)

“He was just dominant. He just dominated the back end, dominated the game.
When he was on the field, you knew he was on the field. He was always
making plays.”

(On how the Rams involvement in the community correlates with his
community efforts)

“Perfectly. I love to do community work, to give back because I'm blessed to be
in the position. So I feel like all I can do is really just give back.”
(On what the move to Los Angeles means for him and his family)
“It was a crazy week, my first time going to free agency. I really didn't know
what to expect but I'm here, so we got the job done. I just appreciate my family
for supporting me the whole way and being excited for me and this new
journey.”

(On what he noticed about Coach McVay and how he deploys his
offenses)

“Really just his football mind. Just seeing stuff here and there, him talking about
the game and explaining stuff. It's just like he lives football. That's what you
want, a guy that's all about football. And the energy he brings on the sideline
and just the way the players who play for him play, you can tell we're just ready
to run through a brick wall for him so that's the type of guy I want to play for.”

(On how he is as a leader and what he wants to lend to the group with his
voice)

“Oh, yeah, I feel like I'm a natural leader. I can't be (Former Rams DL) Aaron
Donald, you know? I can just be myself so that's what I'm going to bring to the
team, just the type of guy who I am leading by example and being vocal and
just trying to show everybody the right way to do things every day I come into
the building.”

(On if he knows anyone on the Rams roster)

“I mean, I got a fellow Oklahoma native (Dcool smiley Jason Taylor (II) on the roster, but
that's really about it. It's really, honestly like a fresh start for real, but I'm ready
to get to know the guys, ready to get started and get to work with them.”

(On what his necklace says)

“Oh, yeah, it says ‘BAM.’ It's just an old nickname from high school that stuck,
‘Kam Bam.’ I just like it so I like to go by it. It's my Instagram name too, so it's
just a little nickname.”

#HelmetHornsMatter

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.

“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
