The LA Rams hired Sean McVay to assume the role of LA Rams Head Coach in 2017. At the time, McVay was the youngest head coach in the NFL, and had remained the youngest head coach for seven seasons. It was not until the New England Patriots hired Jerod Mayo to take over their vacated head coaching role that McVay was no longer the youngest kid on the block.

But in terms of inspiring other coaches to achieve the rank of NFL Head Coach, he may very well be the most prolific. After all, his coaching tree continues to bear fruit, not just as NFL head coaches, but as some of the most sought after coaches to promote to larger coaching roles in the NFL with each passing season.

In his seven seasons as LA Rams Head Coach, McVay has born five new head coaches to other NFL teams.

So who have they been? Well, NFL Insider Andrew Siciliano has already compiled the list of five coaches who were hired away to become NFL head coaches, plus five more positional coaches who were hired away to become NFL Offensive or Defensive Coordinators:

It should come as no surprise that LA Rams Head Coach Sean McVay is a gifted mentor and leader of the Rams coaching staff. In May 2023, he was inducted into the Cradle of Coaches at the University of Miami (Ohio). That honor is bestowed upon a select few coaches, and honoring McVay after just six NFL seasons is a remarkable feat.

But after being honored, McVay may have gone out and coached the best NFL season of his career.

With so many coaches and coordinators finding promotions after spending time with the LA Rams, and Coach McVay, is it any wonder that the Rams were able to attract and hire excellent coaches for the 2023 NFL season?

Hopefully, there is more where that came from. As of now, the Rams are down a DL Coach (Coach Eric Henderson) and a DC (Raheem Morris). But with head coaching positions filling up, the Rams are at risk of losing positional coaches to newly vacated coordinator roles, as well as other positional coaching roles.

It's clear that the LA Rams made a very wise choice in hiring HC Sean McVay in 2017. His success in attracting and rounding out the coaches and coordinators who work with him has an incredibly impressive track record of success in the NFL.

It's almost as though Rams HC Sean McVay has become the Cradle of Coaches Outreach Program Ambassador. And for the life of me, I cannot think of anyone who is more qualified or suitable for that job.
