Whatever concepts that run through his head with Matthew Stafford (i.e. over-reliance on shotgun and empty backfield formations) simply isn't working in a practical sense.
What IS working are the jet sweeps; QB rollouts; and, eye-candy that forces defenders to hesitate just a bit. I'm convinced that this is what has allowed our OL to stabilize and perform decently. This, in turn, has allowed Akers to be a more effective and dynamic player.
The problem, though, is that Stafford doesn't like all of that stuff for some reason. Actually, I think it's because Stafford: A) doesn't want to deal with turning his back to the defense; rolling out; and/or, being relegated to only half of the field.
Gotta coach him up!
