This is what I mean--how does he know?

It is one thing to post PFF's grades-but
another to assess blame when you
don't know the facts.

here are some picks. If I could do video I
would

#1 Rams in Cover-1. everyone is matched
with Scott the free safety and Wagner in the middle
in a short middle - maybe spying maybe a lurk
or maybe going to double someone if there is
an inside release

#2 Everyone has their man, Wagner and Scott
reading

#3 Earnest Jones leaves his man to double
Metcalf and Scott going over to pick that guy
up.

A free safety does whatever a call tells him. It could
be to play over the top of a specific guy, or to
bracket a guy (both double coverage) or
he matches with the deep threat, the deepest
route.

#4 Long comes off his guy the second the QB takes
his hand of the ball, based on where he is facing
Long knows that the ball is not going to his guy
and he drifts back to try and play the ball

Scott is late getting over.

In the middle you see 3 guys on Metcalf. His original
guy Earnest Jones who doubled him and Wagner
who was in middle.

Why would that be? If Metcalf in taking inside route
then Wagner would be the double.

Instead Jones is taking Metcalf on the same side
as the original cover guy who was lined over him
at the snap.

So you have 2 behind and 1 in front.

Maybe this guy who said Long gave up the
touchdown would consider Jones may not
have been supposed to drop his coverage
of Fant.

Looks like everyone is playing Cover-1
except Jones.

But maybe Jones was supposed to
double any inside cutter--I have no way
of knowing.

Wagner is maybe walling off any in cutter
on the top side, I don't know, but there is
none so maybe he should "find worK"
to the strong side.

So, if Jones was supposed to drop
Fant (and I don't think so) then it would
be Scott who should have been there
to pick up Fant

Long has to stay on his guy. He only
drops back after the throw is made.

Long was trying to HELP.

That's the way I see it. But on TV
Long looks like he'd guarding Fant
and ball goes over his head so
it LOOKS like it is his fault.

Scott should have been there
earlier in either scenario I laid out

the only question is what Jones was
supposed to do-cover Fant or
double an in cutter.

But it was not Long's faul.
