How Super Bowl Winners Fared the Following Season

I have just been flabbergasted all season long that the Rams have fallen so far, so fast following their Super Bowl win. So that got me to wondering how other Super Bowl teams have fared the following season? I found the article below which answers that question. I highlighted in red those Super Bowl winning teams that had a .500 or below record the following season.

I take solace in the fact that we are NOT the first Super Bowl team to do poorly the next year. I had no idea there were others .

For some Super Bowl winners, the big game marks the start of a streak or even a dynasty. For other teams, winning it all is the first of one or maybe a couple championships, and then you don't hear from them again, or at least for a long time. And for still others, it's a flash in the pan: one and done. The following is a list of every winning Super Bowl team and how they finished the year following their championship season:

Following Super Bowl I (1966) - Green Bay Packers repeated, beating Oakland 33-14 in Super Bowl II.
Following Super Bowl II (1967) - Green Bay finished third in the Central Division with a 6-7-1 record.
Following Super Bowl III (1968) - New York Jets lost to Kansas City 13-6 in the AFL Divisional Playoff.
Following Super Bowl IV (1969) - Kansas City finished second in the Western Division with a 7-5-2 record.
Following Super Bowl V (1970) - Baltimore Colts lost to Miami 21-0 in the AFC Championship game.
Following Super Bowl VI (1971) - Dallas lost to Washington 26-3 in the NFC Championship game.
Following Super Bowl VII (1972) - Miami repeated, beating Minnesota 24-7 in Super Bowl VIII.

Following Super Bowl XLIV (2009) - New Orleans lost to Seattle 41-36 in an NFC Wild Card game.
Following Super Bowl XLV (2010) - Green Bay lost to the New York Giants 37-20 in an NFC Divisional playoff game.
Following Super Bowl XLVI (2011) - The New York Giants finished with a 9–7 record and didn't go to the playoffs.
Following Super Bowl XLVII (2012) - The Baltimore Ravens failed to make the playoffs, going just 8-8.
Following Super Bowl XLVIII (2013) - The Seattle Seahawks advanced to the NFC championship game after winning the NFC West with a record of 12-4.
Following Super Bowl XLIX (2014) - The New England Patriots advanced to the AFC championship after winning the AFC East with a 12-4 record. They lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos.
Following Super Bowl L (2015) - The Denver Broncos went 9-7 and failed to make the playoffs.
Following Super Bowl LI (2016) - The New England Patriots won the AFC East with a 13-3 record. They advanced all the way to the Super Bowl, where they were defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Following Super Bowl LII (2017) - The Philadelphia Eagles finished second in the NFC East with a 9-7 record and squeaked into the playoffs with a wild card berth. They lost in the Divisional round to the New Orleans Saints.
Following Super Bowl LIII (2018) - The New England Patriots finished with a 12-4 record and won the AFC East. They were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, losing to the Tennessee Titans.
Following Super Bowl LIV (2019) – The Kansas City Chiefs finished first in the AFC West with a 14-2 record. They advanced to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following Super Bowl LV (2020) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished first in the NFC South with a 13-4 record. They lost the Divisional playoffs to the Los Angeles Rams who went on to win Super Bowl LVI
Following Super Bowl LVI (2021) – At mid-season the Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams are in 3rd place with a 3-5 record.
