Why size of Louisville's Tutu Atwell's no concern to Rams

ByNICK KOSKO

Tutu Atwell was one of the second-round wide receivers in the 2021 NFL Draft. But the former Louisville star is set up quite nicely with the Los Angeles Rams.

Like 2020 Heisman Trophy winner and new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith, Atwell is undersized as a receiver. He's even smaller than Smith, listed at 5-foot-9 and 153 pounds.

CBS Sports HQ host and football analyst Emory Hunt says don't worry about, he just wants guys who can catch the football.

"I don't care if Tutu Atwell is built like a lowercase 'L,' I want him on my football team, Hunt said on CBS Sports HQ. "You have to catch that 149 first."

His weight may vary, but Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield mentioned his playing weight in the 160s in 2020. Despite that, Atwell is quite the pass catcher.

"He ended up putting on a lot of weight, he played last year at 162," Satterfield said last Wednesday. "Ironically, he just tweeted out today on the scale that he's 160 pounds ... so, that's plenty big enough. He's fast enough, he can go out and make plays. But he grew up a lot, obviously broke the school record as a receiver, catching so many yards in that first year.

"The thing about Tutu is that he has good great game speed. He can come out here and run a fast time on the 40, but he plays fast. I think there's a big difference that there are some of the guys across the country that are posting these great times, but go watch their film. Now if they play that way then great, but I think he plays that fast. So, once he gets to that level out there and he gets loose in the secondary, they're not catching him. I think he's got great speed and he can catch the football."
