2021 NFL Free Agents: Top available remaining at each position

The NFL free agency “legal tampering window” opened on Monday and the action has been nonstop, as many of the top 2021 NFL free agents have reached agreements. But there are still numerous remaining free agents available for teams looking to spend money and fill their needs. So let’s take a look at the top available free agents still remaining on the market.

Top remaining free-agent quarterbacks in 2021
1) Nick Mullens, San Francisco 49ers
2) Brian Hoyer, New England Patriots
3) Alex Smith, Washington Football Team
4) Joe Flacco, New York Jets
5) Chase Daniel, Detroit Lions
6) Robert Griffin III, Baltimore Ravens
7) C.J. Beathard, San Francisco 49ers
8) Blaine Gabbert, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
9) Colt McCoy, New York Giants
10) Matt Barkley, Buffalo Bills

With Dak Prescott off the market, the QB position lacks star power
After Prescott became the second-highest-paid QB in NFL history, he has left behind a somewhat empty market of QB free agents in 2021. Compared to last offseason, the QB position does not contain any sure-fire starting talent.

Jameis Winston also re-signed with his 2020 team, returning to New Orleans on a one-year deal. Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett and Tyrod Taylor also agreed to terms with new teams on day two of the legal tampering period.

Mitchell Trubisky finally found a home, signing with the Buffalo Bills. That leaves Nick Mullens as our top remaining quarterback.

Top remaining NFL free-agent wide receivers in 2021
1) Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions
2) T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts
3) Antonio Brown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4) Sammy Watkins, Kansas City Chiefs
5) Josh Reynolds, Los Angeles Rams
6) Adam Humphries, Tennessee Titans
7) Demarcus Robinson, Kansas City Chiefs
8) DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
9) Marquise Goodwin, San Francisco 49ers
10) Golden Taint, New York Giants

Kenny Golladay headlines an intriguing group of wide receivers
The 2020 season was a tough one for Kenny Golladay, as he missed 11 games. However, in three and a half seasons with the Lions, Golladay has 21 receiving touchdowns, including 11 in 2020. With franchise tags being handed out to Allen Robinson and Chris Godwin, Golladay is comfortably the top option among WR free agents in the NFL right now.

Aging veterans remain the top options after Golladay
Hilton, Brown, and Watkins are the next of the best remaining receivers after Golladay. Each would provide a team with a veteran presence and have a proven track record of production. But each also brings with them baggage and question marks.

Top remaining running backs on the market
1) James Conner, Pittsburgh Steelers
2) Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3) Mike Davis, Carolina Panthers
4) James White, New England Patriots
5) Le’Veon Bell, Kansas City Chiefs
6) Todd Gurley, Atlanta Falcons
7) Damien Williams, Kansas City Chiefs
8) Duke Johnson, Houston Texans

Behind Aaron Jones, there are a lot of questions about the running back position in the 2021 NFL free-agent class
The running back position is another intriguing group. Aaron Jones was the clear standout. His decision to remain in Green Bay could remove the only back capable of receiving a deal with an average annual value of more than $10 million a year.

Carson’s return to Seattle has taken the top free agent running hack off the board, leaving Conner as the best of the remaining options.

Both Fournette and Davis could make interesting parts of committee situations. They are multi-faceted backs who can be involved in the passing game. That is something that should not be underestimated.

Top available 2021 free-agent tight ends remaining
1) Trey Burton, Indianapolis Colts
2) Tyler Eifert, Jacksonville Jaguars
3) Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers
4) Jesse James, Detroit Lions
5) Richard Rodgers, Philadelphia Eagles
6) Marcedes Lewis, Green Bay Packers
7) MyCole Pruitt, Tennessee Titans
8) Darren Fells, Houston Texans

The free-agent TE landscape wiped clean by New England
Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith headlined this group from a talent standpoint and both ended up in New England. The top 2021 NFL free agent tight ends will team up to give Cam Newton — or perhaps a rookie quarterback — a unique pair of targets in the middle of the field.

Top available 2021 free-agent offensive line players remaining
1) Russell Okung, Carolina Panthers
2) Alejandro Villanueva, Pittsburgh Steelers
3) Kelechi Osemele, Kansas City Chiefs
4) Eric Fisher, Kansas City Chiefs
5) Austin Blythe, Los Angeles Rams
6) Mitchell Schwartz, Kansas City Chiefs
7) Austin Reiter, Kansas City Chiefs
8) Dennis Kelly, Tennessee Titans
9) Trai Turner, Los Angeles Chargers
10) D.J. Fluker, Baltimore Ravens

The offensive line free-agent group is extremely top-heavy in the 2021 NFL offseason
The offensive line group contains some fascinating names. Trent Williams and Corey Linsley are both players in which it is somewhat of a shock to see them reach the open market. Linsley was scooped up by the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday. Willams then became the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history when he re-signed with the 49ers late Tuesday night,

To see the Patriots let both Joe Thuney and David Andrews hit free agency was also somewhat surprising. Retaining Thuney was always going to be tough after giving him the franchise tag last season, and he has since signed with Kansas City. Andrews, however, will return to New England even after the Patriots signed Ted Karras.

Okung, Villanueva, Osemele, and Fisher lead our list of best remaining free agent offensive linemen. All four provide a good veteran presence on the offensive line. However, their best days are now firmly in the rearview mirror.

Best remaining defensive players available
1) Adoree Jackson, CB, Tennessee Titans
2) Kyle Fuller, CB, Chicago Bears
3) Darious Williams, CB, Los Angeles Rams (RFA) — received first-round RFA tender from the LA Rams.
4) J.C. Jackson, CB, New England Patriots (RFA) — received a second-round RFA tender from New England.
5) Geno Atkins, DT, Cincinnati Bengals
6) Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE, Tennessee Titans
7) Richard Sherman, CB, San Francisco 49ers
8) Brian Poole, CB, New York Jets
9) Olivier Vernon, EDGE, Cleveland Browns
10) K’Wuan Williams, CB, San Francisco 49ers
11) Melvin Ingram, EDGE, Los Angeles Chargers
12) Quinton Dunbar, CB, Seattle Seahawks
13) Xavier Rhodes, CB. Indianapolis Colts
14) Bashaud Breeland, CB, Kansas City Chiefs
15) Mackensie Alexander, CB, Cincinnati Bengals

A lot of talented defensive options remain available in the 2021 NFL free-agent class
Headlining the cornerback market heading into the week were two restricted free agents in Williams and Jackson. Williams has already been slapped with a first-round tender by the Rams. Therefore, it would take a confident team to pry away a player they know will cost them their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Titans surprisingly released Adoree Jackson, who is now our top available defensive free agent. The Bears also released Kyle Fuller, making him another enticing option on the open market.

The depth of this free agent class at EDGE has already been diminished by numerous signings. But Clowney, Vernon, and Ingram all can be contributors in the right situation.
