I understand this thought. But the Rams current top back up center Coleman Shelton stands a very good chance to be here until 2023. Shelton has been here for two straight seasons now under Kromer's tutelage & we have never seen him play as of yet. Shelton has been active for 26 Ram gms. as our back up center. Shelton will be entering his 4th season.
There is also Rams drafted center Brian Allen who was our starting OC in 2018 before a bad knee injury placed him on IR. Allen has had a rough year coming down with Covid -19 plus trying to rehab a badly injured knee. Allen has been active for 23 Ram gms. with 9 starts. Allen will be in his 4th season in 2021.
Rams in this 2020/2021 season have been utilizing four OL'ers playing & starting @ the two OG posts. Former 3rd rd pick Noteboom & Corbett both in their 3rd season plus Edwards & Evans both in their 2nd seasons. All of these four are under contract for this next season. Austin Corbett has been discussed often here as a real possible starting prospect now that he has started for 2 seasons. Corbett has been active for 38 gms & 25 starts in the NFL. That good experience that can be used if he was to start @ OC. Corbett is a nice sized OC @ 6-4 310-315 lbs.
You certainly can say there are not any other replacements for his RG post ....3rd rd pick Bobby Evans is pushing right now to start @ OG, so Corbett can easily be unencumbered to move to the center? So the Rams currently have two 3rd round picks riding the bench & not starting already. I just do not see a rookie center ever starting in a McVay offense. So we want another 3rd rd OC pick joining the other 3rd rd picks? If the three mentioned above were not enough then I would be wrong not to bring up a 6-1 7/8 tall 315-pound rookie Tremayne Anchrum who looks ideal to be considered as a future center prospect too. Anchrum has been active for 12 gms this rookie season.
