Future Cap Space

January 08, 2021 12:49PM
The rams have used up about 198 million of 2021 cap space. According to OvertheCap that is just under 21 million over the cap. We do not know where the cap will be, but we know how much space each team has relative to each other. The Saints are 95 million over!!!! The eagles are 70 million over!!!! Those teams have a lot of issues to work through to get anywhere near the cap. The rams are in the next bunch of teams Falcons, Packers, Steelers, Rams and Texans anywhere from 24 (Atl) to 17 (Texans) over. Chiefs, Vikings, Raiders, 13 to 7 million over. Bears and Bills about even. Titans, Giants, Lions in the single digit millions. A bunch of teams in the mid 15 million to 30 million under. Those who could try to scoop up a lot of FAs are Jags, Jets, Colts, Pats, Wash, and Cinn.

Couple of points for the rams. This year the cap was at 198 million so we are basically out of space even if it does not drop. The rams can massage contracts, however we are near the bottom in cap space for 22, 23 and have the least space for 24. At some point, the bill comes due (see NO and Phil).
The lack of cap space is prior to signing ERFAs, RFAs, and players on a practice squad. Now only the top 51 count so we have 45 + CB Williams (3.4 for 2nd or 4.8 for 1st round comp), ERFAs Patrick, Shelton and Howard that would get us to 49 but also cost another 5 to 6 million. Two more players to get to 51 is another 1.2 million. So that would put us as at 203 or 204 before signing anyone else or drafting any players.
