A lot of people rushing to say what a great job Shannahan and Lynch have done.
Yeh, maybe.
Maybe not?
Maybe they just stuck around?
JG is barely average.
They took Thomas over Mahomes.
From 2019, most people had Bosa ranked the best player as their first round pick, so hardly a tough call.
From 2018. their first pick McGlinchey is ok
From 2017, Witherspoon has been benched and Foster is a bust through off field stuff.
They took a crappy team, made them more crappy (admittedly they were hit hard by injuries) for a couple of years, got a boatload of high draft picks and now look good.
Have they done well?
Yeh, of course, they're in the Super Bowl.
But, literally, NOBODY in here would have swapped Shanahan for McVay at this time last year.
Now he's the Messiah.
The more I watch this game, the more I think, that other than for a small few difference makers, that coaching is all about hanging around long enough.
If kudos is due, it's probably more due to the 9er ownership as many (Cleveland maybe?) would have fired their team at the end of last season and started again.
There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
