The 2010s: NFL all-decade team

Putting together The Athletic’s All-Decade NFL Team for the 2010s proved challenging. We debated how the team would be structured after a decade that saw teams change how they deployed personnel. We debated which players were most deserving. There was not always consensus.

When the ballots were cast, I asked the other five voters — national NFL writers Dan Pompei, Dane Brugler, Ted Nguyen, Lindsay Jones and Sheil Kapadia — which decisions they found most difficult. Jones and I thought the running backs were problematic. Pompei struggled with the second safety. Kapadia and Brugler had a hard time settling on edge rushers. Nguyen wavered on his selection at quarterback.

So many of these decisions were not easy ones because so many players excelled during the decade. We’ve offered our reasoning below and, in some cases, agreed to disagree. But there were three unanimous selections on offense, one on defense, five on special teams and, yes, Bill Belichick...
