While there might be tweaks and even a replacement of Blythe or Allen by Corbett or ??, the only real hope is better play of the guys we have. Can that happen? Sure. But at the same time, they are what they are. And what they are is a pretty good pass blocking line and a below average run blocking line.
The inaction in picking up any viable Oline help before the trade deadline says that either the Rams didn't try, or they did and couldn't accomplish it.
Yet, if they stay healthy, some marginal improvement can be expected simply from playing more reps together as a unit.
What has to happen at this point is McVay gaming the offense to fit the Oline's strengths and weaknesses.
For me, this means probably a 60% pass 40% run offense. And it means even less of Gurley EXCEPT on obvious passing downs; and it means more of Brown and Henderson on more base offense downs. Why? Because the one thing Gurley is still exceptional at is as a pass receiver and blitz pick up.
Brown moves the pile and can make 2 or 3 yards when there's no hole at all. And he can drag tacklers for an extra couple as well as he keeps fighting for every inch.
Henderson is small and quick and has excellent vision and balance. He can squeeze through tiny holes and is very quick to change direction.
Gurley MUST have good blocking and proper NFL sized running lanes, which simply doesn't happen right now.
We have a good QB and very good to excellent WRs.
So, I think the handwriting is on the wall. Any strong improvement of the Oline can only happen after this season with new personnel. Otherwise, it is what it is for 2019. And it is probably not enough to go anywhere come playoff time.
