After the JUST GOT IT OFF series that cost the Rams a superbowl 2 seasons ago , I never thought the Rams could execute when time was an element.
Last night was better on the first part of the drive, but the last 55 seconds was a disaster.
After the great play down the middle to Everett, the Rams didn't get down the field quickly and the clock went from 55 seconds when Everett went down to 28 seconds before the next play. With already being in field goal range, getting down there quickly and spiking the ball may have been in order since only a field goal was needed to win the game. They should have been able to stop the clock with like 40 seconds left.
Than 2 plays to the sidelines and the Seahawks were trying to take that away instead of going to the middle of the field which I believe was open. With 28 seconds left, a good chunk of 10 yards in the middle of the field to get to the 20 and spike the ball would have made that field goal shorter. Now, I do believe that spiking the ball is typically done too often when the down is more important than the clock, but in this situation, a touch down was not needed, only enough time to use the middle of the field for 2 plays even if you give up one play for the spike.
On top of it, another penalty for having the play clock run out of time, costing the team 5 yards.
So I give the first part of the drive an A and the last Part of the drive a D with the composite grade being a C+ which is still significant improvement from the F from 2 seasons ago that cost the Rams the superbowl.
