Why Doesn't McVay Call a Slant Against the 6-1 Defense?

Okay so I'm no expert when it comes to calling football plays, but it seemed to me that when opponents play the 6-1, there is no MLB (nor any LBs for that matter). Couldn't a simple slant get big yardage? I saw that the middle was wide open yesterday when TB lined up. what am i missing here?
