John Johnson: It's an honor to face Tom Brady, but 'he's definitely beatable'

There isn’t a single franchise in the NFL that has reached the Super Bowl more than Tom Brady has himself. There also isn’t a quarterback in league history with more rings than Brady’s five. Arguing against him as the greatest player of all time is getting more difficult by the year because he simply continues to win.

This is his third straight appearance in the Super Bowl splitting the last two 1-1. His first-ever Super Bowl title came 17 years ago in a win over the Rams, beginning what would become the greatest dynasty the NFL has ever seen.

It’s impossible to ignore his greatness, and John Johnson isn’t afraid to admit it.

“It’s an honor, honestly, he’s the all-time great,” Johnson told the Los Angeles Times. “He’s beatable though. So, I mean, you just can’t go in there with the mindset of, ‘Oh, it’s Tom Brady.’ He’s definitely beatable, so we’re going to go in there and give it a go.”

Johnson isn’t wrong in saying Brady’s beatable. He is, and that’s not exclusive to the regular season. He’s been beaten three times in the Super Bowl, going 5-3 in his eight trips – still a remarkable record.

But to say the Rams have no chance to hand him his second straight loss in the big game would be foolish. It just won’t be easy. Los Angeles needs another complete team effort, particularly on defense.

The defensive line has played great in the playoffs, getting two sacks on Drew Brees in the conference championship and limiting the Saints’ dynamic running back tandem to 46 yards rushing. Pressuring Brady is difficult because of his quick release, but so is Brees for the same reason.

Beating Brady in the Super Bowl is a tall order, but this Rams team has confidence it can pull it off.
